A LITTLE HELP FOR YOUR PRACTICE

Help & FAQ

Answers to common questions about installing Mode Shuffler, getting the best sound, and practising with confidence.

Getting started

How do I get started with Mode Shuffler?

Choose the notes and modes you want to practise, set a comfortable tempo (BPM), and choose how often the challenge changes. Tap Start, then play the displayed root note and mode in time with the beat. You can add drums, guitar chords, or the metronome when you’re ready.

Why isn’t Mode Shuffler in the App Store or Google Play? How do I install it?

Mode Shuffler is a Progressive Web App (PWA), so you can install it directly from this website instead of an app store. After installation, it opens much like a regular phone or tablet app and is designed to work offline. I chose this approach to keep things simple and make the app accessible across devices. I may explore an App Store or Google Play release in the future, but there’s no announced store release yet.

Can I practise without an internet connection?

Yes. Once Mode Shuffler has been opened and its required files have been saved on your device, its practice features are designed to work offline. For the most reliable experience, install it to your home screen and open it once while connected. You’ll need internet access to receive new versions.

Audio & troubleshooting

Why can’t I hear any sound?

First check your media volume, connected Bluetooth devices, and the audio settings inside Mode Shuffler. Press Start again after returning to the app. On iPhone, try turning Silent Mode off using the Ring/Silent switch or Action Button; how browser audio behaves in Silent Mode can vary by device and browser. If needed, close and reopen the app.

Why does the sound buzz or distort through my phone speaker?

Small phone speakers can struggle with deep bass frequencies, especially when drums and guitar chords play at the same time. Try turning down the phone volume or lowering the accompaniment levels in Mode Shuffler. Headphones or an external speaker may sound clearer. If you also hear distortion through headphones, let me know — it may have a different cause.

Why do I hear clicks, pops, or crackling on some iPads?

Intermittent clicks or crackles have occurred during testing on an older iPad, particularly when several sounds were playing. The exact cause hasn’t been confirmed, and there isn’t a guaranteed fix yet. Try reducing the number of active sounds, testing with headphones, restarting the app, and installing available iPadOS updates. If the problem continues, send me your iPad model and iPadOS version so I can investigate.

Why does the audio stop when I lock my device or switch apps?

Mode Shuffler is built for active practice while its screen is open. Mobile browsers and operating systems can pause or suspend web audio when the app goes into the background or the screen locks. Return to Mode Shuffler and press Start again to resume.

Settings & feedback

Are my practice settings saved automatically?

Mode Shuffler saves your practice preferences locally in your browser on the device you use. They don’t automatically sync between devices or browsers. Clearing your browser’s site data, or installing from a different website address, may reset your preferences.

How can I report a problem or suggest an improvement?

You can contact me directly at [email protected]. I appreciate bug reports, questions, and ideas. For technical issues, it helps to include your device model, operating-system version, and a short description of what happened. A screenshot can also be useful.
